The Baptist Ancestry

The history of Fundamental Baptists traces back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the United States. As a response to perceived liberal doctrinal trends in mainstream Protestant churches, fundamentalism arose.

Baptist Fundamentalists placed a strong emphasis on the Bible's authority, especially with regard to its literal interpretation and inerrancy. They also placed a strong emphasis on classic Christian doctrines including Christ's deity, redemption via faith alone, and the requirement of individual conversion.

Fundamentalist Baptists were influential in a number of social and political movements during the 20th century, such as the temperance movement and the push for conservative educational principles. To encourage camaraderie and collaboration among churches that share their values, they also founded denominations and associations, such as the Fundamental Baptist Fellowship International and the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches.

Fundamentalist Baptists are frequently distinguished by their separatist posture, separating themselves from theological liberalism and any compromise with secular society. This has resulted in different levels of isolationism among some movement factions.Holding fast to what they consider to be the core beliefs of Christianity, Fundamental Baptists remain a powerful force in American Christianity despite internal divisions and disputes.
